With respect to the arrangement of non-zero matrix elements $ a_{i,j}$ we distinguish between different types of matrices:

Generally, an $ (m\times n)$-matrix is called weakly occupied if there are only $ c\max(m,n)$ non-zero elements, where $ c$ is a not too large constant.
